Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Ireland Data Center a Possibility for Facebook
Social media giant Facebook may build an Ireland data center in the near future. The Irish Times reported that the company is on the verge of filing for permission to build a 200,000 square foot facility in Meath, which is about 30 minutes northwest of Dublin. Colocation solutions provider Digital Realty Trust, Inc. announced May 20 the expansion of its global services in another Singapore data center. The company is looking to invest around $200 million in the new data center infrastructure. With this facility, Digital Realty hopes to tap into the growing global demand for agile, open and connected data center solutions.Digital Realty will convert a 177,000 square foot former paper storage building into a 13.2-megawatt facility. Singapore Data Center Connectivity Upgraded By 1-Net
Asian data center service provider 1-Net announced in mid-May that it had begun upgrading the infrastructure within its Singapore data center to improve the company's connectivity network. Cloud services provider SingleHop announced in late May that it had acquired Datagram, a firm specializing in IT infrastructure management. The deal allows SingleHop to more rapidly grow its presence in the U.S. hosted private cloud market.SingleHop operates data centers across the U.S. and Europe, serving 5,000 customers in more than 120 countries.
