Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Lastly, as Google and other hyperscalers industrialize, it is increasingly evident that compute is migrating to regional hubs of power with friendly development environments. These hubs are revitalizing our industrial stock and evolving into the central backbone of our modern compute industry.
Ark Data Centres Selected by Capita for New Private Cloud Service
Corsham, Wiltshire - 27 May 2015 – Capita has partnered with Ark Data Centres to supply secure, energy efficient data center space for the new Capita Private Cloud platform (infrastructure as a service). The move allows Capita IT Enterprise Services to develop standard infrastructures, processes and services that it can offer customers rather than creating bespoke solutions in every case. Sony Acquires New Optical Storage System Company
Sony announced in May that it had acquired Optical Archive Inc, a company that makes optical storage systems for data centers. The goal of this purchase is to leverage the technology to offer new capabilities in hardware design for data centers. Specifically, Sony is attempting to meet the demands of the burgeoning "cold archive" market.Cold archive is data that has to be held for a long time, but isn't accessed frequently. Cloud-photo storage or information that must be held on to for legal purposes is typically put into cold storage. This keeps it from using up the more-expensive to maintain servers.This...
LG's To Open Largest Korean Data Center
The largest Asian data center will be opened in July by LG. This new center will, once both of its phases have been opened, offer 920,000 square feet of white space and will consume 165 megawatts of power. The center will provide high-density server facilities, cloud services, managed hosting and colocation. The data center building will utilize a few different energy supplying strategies to make sure that the facility is able to keep up with the power demands of its hosted computer systems. These are sustainable facilities, and have a power-use efficiency score of 1.4. With a wind tunnel built through the floors of the data...
