Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Lastly, as Google and other hyperscalers industrialize, it is increasingly evident that compute is migrating to regional hubs of power with friendly development environments. Albuquerque Data Center to Open in June
IT solutions provider NOVA Corp., which is owned by the Navajo Nation, will flip the switch on the first phase of its massive Albuquerque data center June 3. The first 6,000 square feet of space will come online at that time with 250 cabinets, each housing 52 servers.The 133,000-square-foot facility, which is located in the Mesa del Sol community of Albuquerque, was announced in 2011, and construction started in 2013. Arizona Data Center Fire Stalls Construction For Apple
An Arizona data center under construction reported a 30 minute fire in late May 2015. The facility, which is to be a new information hub for Apple in Mesa, Arizona, was on fire for 30 minutes and 100 firefighters responded to the blaze.There have been no reported injuries from the event, but between 40 and 50 people were evacuated from the building while they contained the fire. Apple's Reno Data Center To Get Green Updates
Apple's Reno, Texas data center is slated to double in size in the upcoming year. Apple Inc. recent filed with the state to build a 50 megawatt substation called NV Energy east of the data center to enable this large growth. As of now, it's set to use all of its current power capacity as soon as Apple finishes its Project Mills Diablo data center complex. Virginia Data Center To Be Constructed By NASA
NASA broke ground on its new Virginia data center May 22, 2015. The computational research facility, which is part of the Langley Research Center and will be built by Turner Construction Co., will occupy 40,000 square feet and include a data center and office space.
