Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Digital Realty Reports Strong Earnings For Q1
Data center and colocation solutions provider Digital Realty announced Q1 earnings after market close May 5.The company reported that funds from operations per share rose to $1.56 in the first quarter of 2015, compared to $1.22 in Q1 2014, an increase of 28 percent. Q1 revenues were $407 million, a one percent decline from Q4 2014 and a four percent increase over Q1 2014. Zynga Moves Workloads Back to Amazon
Social gaming company Zynga has made the decision to push its data back to Amazon cloud services after spending two years building out its own data centers. The company announced May 8 that to cut $100 million in spending, it would be closing those data centers and move workloads back to AWS servers.In 2011, Zynga, creators of FarmVille and other popular titles, leased data center real estate from wholesale data center providers DuPont Fabros Technology and Digital Realty Trust, operating a Santa Clara data center and a Virginia data center. Data Center Finance: QTS Realty Trust Acquires Carpathia Hosting
QTS Realty Trust announced in early May that it signed a deal to acquire colocation data center and managed services provider Carpathia Hosting. Carpathia offers high-level security and compliance solutions to enterprise customers and federal agencies and is a leading provider of hybrid cloud and infrastructure-as-a-service solutions. The transaction, which will cost approximately $326 million, will help to strengthen QTS Realty's existing real estate and technology services platform. New Hampshire Data Center Opened By FirstLight Fiber
New England-based colocation service provider FirstLight Fiber announced in early May that its newly remodeled New Hampshire data center was open for business.The New Hampshire data center was extensively rebuilt and a conference center and additional office space was added to the facility. The refurbished building was acquired in the summer of 2014 after FirstLight purchased Internet service provider G4 Communications. On May 7, Internet infrastructure services provider Internap Corporation announced a new CEO and president. Michael Ruffolo, who has been on the company's board of directors since 2010, will succeed resigning president and CEO Eric Cooney. Ruffolo has more than 25 years of experience leading high-technology companies.
