Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance.     Data center colocation company Equinix announced May 26 it would be expanding two of its Hong Kong data centers, HK1 and HK2, by adding room for nearly 1,200 cabinets total. The expansion will cost the company approximately $40 million. The HK2 expansion will bring the total capacity for this data center to 2,350 cabinets.     Infrastructure and cloud computing services provider Peak 10, Inc. announced May 19 it would be building and expanding a North Carolina data center outside of Raleigh in Morrisville.     Amazon Web Services will be moving its $1.1 billion Ohio data center project. Originally, the Amazon facilities were going to be located in three different cities near Columbus: Hillard, Dublin and Orange Township.
