Google Cloud unveils AI-optimised infrastructure enhancements

Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Lastly, as Google and other hyperscalers industrialize, it is increasingly evident that compute is migrating to regional hubs of power with friendly development environments. These hubs are revitalizing our industrial stock and evolving into the central backbone of our modern compute industry.

South Africa Data Center Upgrade Funded By Teraco Data Environments
South Africa data center operator Teraco Data Environments recently received $34 hundred million to fund its data center upgrades. Maryland Data Center Complex Created For US Social Security Administration
The U.S. Social Security Administration announced in late January that it is creating a massive Maryland data center, which it will leverage to consolidate its core IT operations.The new facility, known as the National Support Center, offers 300,000 square feet of available space and is Tier III certified. The site is located near Baltimore and will house all of the SSA's computing and bandwidth. Minnesota Data Center Qualifies for Data Center Tax Incentives
Cologix's new Minnesota data center has qualified for a new Minnesota sales data center tax incentive program this January. California Data Center Bought By Westcore Properties
Westcore Properties purchased a California Data Center alongside a three-story office building in Sunnyvale in late January. Qwest Communications, a subsidiary of CenturyLink, was and is currently the sole tenant of the data center. For now, Qwest Communications will remain the only tenant with a signed five year renewal contract on the lease with Westcore, which will accept other bids for tenants later in the year.
