Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Lastly, as Google and other hyperscalers industrialize, it is increasingly evident that compute is migrating to regional hubs of power with friendly development environments.   • California Data Center To Be Built By Vanir Construction

    A new California data center will rise in the city of Lincoln. The facility, just approved in February by the town's planning commission, will be a 35,800 square foot, two story data center. It will sit on roughly 3.3 acres of land in the Lincoln business park. The firm building the new center is Vanir Construction, a Sacramento-based company. This is the neighborhood's first new construction within the Aviation Business Park in five years.   • Wyoming Data Center Expansion Announced By Microsoft

    Microsoft announced in mid-February that it plans to invest in another expansion of its Cheyenne, Wyoming data center.The tech giant is spending more than $200 million to add extra space to the Cheyenne data center, doubling the number of people employed there. The project will add 120 acres to the North Range Business Park, where the complex is located.Microsoft's investment in the Wyoming data center began in 2012 when the facility was first constructed.   • Two Australia Data Centers To Be Purchased By Vocus Communications

    Vocus Communications announced in mid-February that it plans to purchase two Australia data centers from Enterprise Data Corporation, as well as EDC's business continuity operations.The two facilities, a Sydney data center and Melbourne data center, will cost Vocus $23.5 million and will provide more than 600 business continuity seats between them.   • Houston Data Center Bought By Netrality

    Netrality, a recently formed company spearheaded by entrepreneur Hunter Newby and Amerimar Enterprises, bought a 25-story data center and carrier hotel in Houston, Texas this February. The facility includes 1.1 million square feet and has space for 400,000 square feet of data center space.Newby and Amerimar have invested together over the past 15 years, but this is the first  initiative  under their new branding as Netrality Properties.   • Trinidad Data Center Planned By Caribbean IXP

    Caribbean IXP announced in mid-February that it is planning to build a Trinidad data center hotel. The project will create Trinidad and Tobago's first Tier III carrier-neutral facility and will feature computing resource pools, first-class hosting and high levels of security. The Trinidad data center aims to support high demand from major corporations in the area, as well as local and national government organizations and IT service providers.The facility will be subdivided into separate areas for each client.
