Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Bandwidth infrastructure services provider Zayo Group Holdings announced in late February that it had closed on the acquisition of colocation and infrastructure-as-a-service provider Latisys Holdings, LLC. The purchase was completed for a final total of $675 million.Latisys was made up of two distinct business segments: colocation and cloud. The colocation segment accounted for approximately 75 percent of the company's revenue and the cloud business made up the other 25 percent. Ottawa Data Center Remodel Announced By Canadian Government
The Canadian government announced in early March that it is going forward with plans to remodel an Ottawa data center to create a new development site.The project, which comes with a price tag of more than $80 million, will turn an existing facility near the Ottawa airport into a second development data center to test new federal programs before they go live. The University of Mississippi Medical Center announced in late February that it is partnering with Venyu Solutions to transform part of its campus into a data center.UMMC entered into a lease agreement with the Baton Rouge-based data center company to transform an old building on campus into a new computing facility that will serve as a hub for the hospital's growing telehealth program.
