Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Pennsylvania Data Center Project Finalized By Penn State
Penn State University announced in mid-March that it has finalized plans for a second data center on its University Park campus.The new $58 million facility will be used to provide high performance computing and data storage related to the education and research initiatives supported by the school. Singapore Data Center Opened By Equinix
In mid-March, Equinix announced it had opened its third Singapore data center, dubbed SG3. The company's new facility is its most expansive in the region, as it includes 385,000 square feet of data center space. Data Center Tax Incentive Being Considered By Missouri Governor
In mid-March, Missouri state legislatures in the House and Senate approved a data center tax incentive which would allow for a break on state and local sales tax for data center organizations building new facilities or expanding existing structures. The measure will now be sent to Gov. Jay Nixon for approval. Data Center Finance: Lightower Acquires ColocationZone and Chicago Data Center
In early March, Lightower announced that it had finalized its acquisition of ColocationZone, an enterprise data center service provider based in Chicago. As part of the deal, Lightower will take over operations of the Meet Me Room for ColocationZone's Chicago data center, located in the central business district in the South Loop.The Illinois data center features connections to nine telecommunications carriers in the area, as well as scalable cabinet and cage space.
