Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Lastly, as Google and other hyperscalers industrialize, it is increasingly evident that compute is migrating to regional hubs of power with friendly development environments. ViaWest To Receive Minnesota Data Center Tax Breaks
ViaWest's Minnesota data center recently qualified for state tax incentives. While ViaWest opened the data center a year ago, the new incentive will mean savings for the organization. Denver Data Center Opened By zColo
In mid-April, zColo, the colocation branch of Zayo Group Holding, announced that it had launched a new Colorado data center in downtown Denver. This is the company's third facility in the city.The new Denver data center includes 19,000 square feet of space, 2MW of redundant power and a 2N cooling system. H5 Data Centers Upgrading Its Denver
H5 Data Centers has recently announced that it is upgrading its 300,000 square foot Denver data center. The wholesale data center provider and colocation company is attempting to increase the power-use efficiency of the campus and strengthen its infrastructure.The company's efforts to improve the efficiency of its operations started in January. China Data Center Construction Announced By Tencent
Chinese Internet giant Tencent announced in mid-April that it will begin construction on another China data center in June.The new facility, which will be built in Chongqing, Sichuan Province, will be the first large cloud data center in Midwest China for the company. Missouri Data Center Tax Breaks Signed Into Law
Missouri Governor Jay Nixon signed a bill in April passing data center tax incentives. The governor vetoed a similar measure in 2014 on the grounds that it lacked protections from abuse. However, the newest version of the bill adds a minimum investment, a cap on incentives and job creation requirements.To qualify under the new law, a data center operator must invest at least $25 million and create 10 jobs per data center in order to be eligible for the next tax breaks.
