Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Iowa Data Center Receives Another Billion Dollar Investment By Google
Google's Council Bluffs, Iowa data center will be receiving another $1 billion from the company as an investment. This expansion will take the form of a new four story data center building, which will be the 1,000-acre campus's third facility. On-site staff is expected to more than double as a result of this investment, leading to upwards of 70 new high-tech jobs. Scotland Data Center Construction Announced By Queensway
Queensway Park Data Centers Ltd. announced in mid-April that it will be constructing two Scotland data centers at Queensway Park in Glenrothes, which is approximately 34 miles northeast of Edinburgh.The Scotland data centers are being built with data center sustainability in mind. Both buildings will be constructed to comply with Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Methodology outstanding standards and the company is hoping to reach a target PUE rating of 1.15. Apple Building Two Solar Farms To Power China Data Centers
Apple announced in mid-April that it is beginning construction on two solar energy farms to power China data centers. The projects highlight the tech company's expanded global investment in alternative energy sources and data center sustainability.The solar farms are being built in Sichuan province in Southwestern China and they will be owned in partnership between Apple and Sichuan Shengtian New Energy Development Co., a joint venture between SunPower and Chinese firms. Net Access' New Jersey Data Center To Host Ubiquity Hosting's Cloud Services
A New Jersey data center owned by Net Access will host Ubiquity Hosting's cloud services. Ubiquity Hosting is making this move in order to expand its list of clients and to provide hosting in close proximity to some of its main New York partners.The hosting data center will be Net Access' 120,000 square foot Parsippany II data center, which is located 30 miles away from Manhattan. U.K., Canada Data Centers Announced By Equinix
Equinix announced in mid-April that it opened two new computing facilities, one in Europe and one in North America.The first, a U.K. data center located in Slough, England, is the company's sixth site in the London area. The nearly $80 million facility will create new pathways in and out of London for the LD6 International Business Exchange.The England data center offers approximately 236,000 square feet of space and has the initial capacity for 1,300 cabinets.
