CoreSite Opens New Jersey Data Center

CoreSite recently announced the opening of its newest data center in Secaucus, New Jersey. The facility has been dubbed NY2 and is connected to the company’s NY1 data center in Manhattan.

The new structure opened Dec. 2, 2013 and is a 280,000-square-foot facility providing East Coast clients with one of the most densely networked, low-latency campuses in the region. The data center design of NY2 centered around the ability to optimize performance through the connection with the New York facility. The New Jersey data center was established to make resources available to business clients seeking scalable options as a means to expand their service footprints and reduce costs.

The Secaucus facility also adds 21 critical megawatts of computing capacity to existing assets at NY1 to support customers in CoreSite’s nine target markets. The data center layout of the facility includes 12 computer rooms, each of which is 12,000 square feet with 1.5 MW of capacity.

The NY2 data center was also designed to include best-in-class security measures for data and system protection. The structure has around-the-clock security guard monitoring, card access, biometric scanners, camera surveillance and a perimeter fence to control campus access.

The design also focused on data center sustainability, boasting several environmental certifications including LEED, Energy Star and SSAE-16 Type 2. These achievements are awarded to structures with special features for energy efficiency and environmental consciousness.

According to CoreSite chief executive officer Tom Ray, 10 networks committed to leases at NY2 before the facility opened, which speaks to the value of the location and resources being provided at the data center. The structure offers clients solutions for performance-sensitive applications and workloads with its direct data center fiber optic cable connection to NY1 and other key network points.

“With an estimated operating cost as low as 60 percent below that in Manhattan, and with CoreSite’s industry-leading customer service, we believe that NY2 bring to market a compelling solution to a wide range of mission-critical, high-performance data center requirements among enterprises, systems integrators and managed service providers, and Internet, cloud, content service providers,” Ray said.
