Minnesota Data Center To Come To Chaska

A new Minnesota data center may arrive in West Creek Corporate center in Chaska, according to the City Council. The concept plan is slated to appear before the Planning Commission and the City Council agendas in June of 2015.

Chaska is already home to many data centers thanks to Minnesota's relatively low energy prices. Some of the current facilities in the area are owned by UnitedHealth Group, Stream Data, as well as ViaWest. The fair weather and northerly climate allow for  low cost? data center operation within the region.

"A major reason for data centers considering development in Chaska has to do with the high quality and affordable electricity we are able to provide to customers, as well as great connectivity to several fiber networks," noted a recent city newsletter.

Of course, not all Minnesota data centers reside within Chaska itself. A nearby facility recently rose in Shakopee at the request of CenturyLink, and Cologix expanded its Minneapolis facility in 2014. Both organizations that need connectivity to downtown offices in Minnesota and those looking to expand their Midwest presence have an interest in this area.
