Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Lastly, as Google and other hyperscalers industrialize, it is increasingly evident that compute is migrating to regional hubs of power with friendly development environments. Dublin Data Center Opened By Digital Realty Trust
As part of its plan to develop a large-scale computing facility in the region, Digital Realty Trust announced in September that it has officially opened its Dublin data center. The project, which cost $192 million, is the first phase of a four-building complex in the region totaling 85,000 square feet. The 10-acre site is located in Dublin's Digital Profile Park, west of the city, and has a 15.36 MW capacity. Atlanta Data Center Expansion By Twitter
Twitter announced plans in September to nearly double its Atlanta data center capacity in order to keep up with East Coast and European demand. Twitter leases approximately 100,000 square feet of space in Atlanta Metro, a server farm the size of almost 17 football fields located near downtown Atlanta. The social networking company plans to lease an additional 800,000 square feet in the nearly 1 million square foot Georgia data center operated by Quality Technology Services. New York Data Center Sees Tax Incentives
Green House Data announced in September that the company will be leasing approximately 20,000 square feet of space in an Orangeburg, New York data center, and is looking for tax incentives to help fund the project. The long-term agreement reached by Green House and Ramland Holdings LLC, the facility's owner, initiates the start of a full redevelopment of the New York data center campus. The 232,000 square foot building will provide approximately 2MW of power with enough density to support 10kw cabinets. Sydney Data Center Phase One Completed by Global Switch
Toward the end of August, Global Switch announced the opening of its new Sydney data center. The company celebrated the launch of its Sydney East wing by inviting 200 of its clients to view the new facility.The computing structure was constructed next to Global Switch's existing Sydney West facility at its data center site near the Central Business District. Global Switch managing director Damon Reid noted that the facility's location is a critical driver of the firm's service portfolio, providing nearby access to the company's corporate customers.
