Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Lastly, as Google and other hyperscalers industrialize, it is increasingly evident that compute is migrating to regional hubs of power with friendly development environments. These hubs are revitalizing our industrial stock and evolving into the central backbone of our modern compute industry.
Ohio Data Center Plans Near Completion for Amazon
For several months now, Amazon's plan for an Ohio data center appeared to be up in the air. In late October, however, Ohio Governor John Kasich announced that the e-commerce giant plans to make a $1.1 billion investment in a central Ohio data center. At a campaign stop, Kasich told the audience that Amazon officials had committed to the Ohio data center project. "I just met with one of the top officials at Amazon," Kasich said. Toronto Data Center Added to TeraGo Portfolio
Canadian cloud service provider TeraGo announced in late October that it is adding a second Toronto data center to its portfolio. The new Tier III certified facility enables TeraGO to continue expanding its national data center footprint. The new 10,000 square-foot facility was completely redesigned to meet Tier III certification standards and features 4.8 MW of power as well as N+2 availability of generators. The Toronto data center also offers the possibility to expand to an additional 1,600 square feet. California Data Center Added By LeaseWeb
The end of October came for LeaseWeb with an announcement that the cloud provider will be partnering with Equinix to expand LeaseWeb's West Coast presence with a California data center.The company will be operating out of Equnix's San Jose data center which conveniently compliments LeaseWeb's East Coast operation based out of a Washington D.C. data center. The California site is an IBX facility which enables LeaseWeb to access more than 50 points of presence and 33 Internet exchanges, as well as have 4.5 Tbps of capacity. Illinois Data Center Expansion Completed For Latisys
Latisys announced in late October that it had completed an expansion of its Illinois data center. The expansion will provide the company's suburban Chicago data center with an additional 25,000 square feet of raised floor space. So far, Latisys has added more than 75,000 square feet to the facility, which it purchased in 2008. After four phases of construction, the complex now total more than 146,000 square feet.
