Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Lastly, as Google and other hyperscalers industrialize, it is increasingly evident that compute is migrating to regional hubs of power with friendly development environments. Nebraska Data Center Near Completion for Travelers
Insurance provider Travelers Cos. is working to complete its newest Nebraska data center in Sarpy County, which is just south of Omaha. The company broke ground on the facility just over a year ago and plans to have the structure operational by spring 2015.Once completed, the Omaha data center will include 190,000 square feet of space to house the insurer's servers and data infrastructure. In late September, Google announced the groundbreaking of its newest European facility, a Netherlands data center in Eemshaven. Dallas Data Center Expansion Announced By DataBank Ltd.
DataBank Ltd. announced in late November that it has plans to expand its Dallas data center.The facility originally opened in 2006 and since then the company has had numerous customer deployments and recently signed a new agreement with a large, unnamed tenant. In the modern data center industry, IT budgets of between $50 and $100 million are being allocated by self-taught IT staff unfamiliar with the current state of the market.
