Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance.   • Dallas Data Center Construction Started For State Farm

    State Farm announced in late December that it had broken ground on its new Texas data center. The facility is located just south of the company's new offices in Richardson, a suburb of Dallas. The site offers more than 129,000 square feet of available space on 15 acres of land. The building, which was designed by Corgan Architects in Dallas, will be constructed all in one story.   • New York Data Center Construction To Begin For BlackRock

    BlackRock Inc. announced in early January that the construction of its new New York data center is about to start.The building of the facility, one of the largest development projects in the area, will cost approximately $80 million. The New York data center will be built in the CrossPoint Business Park in Getzville, a hamlet within the city of Amherst, which is northeast of Buffalo.   • Ireland Data Center Planned For EMC

    Cloud service provider EMC announced in late December that it is looking to expand its data center portfolio with an Ireland data center in County Cork.The company is applying to the Cork County Council for planning permission to create a new data center at its existing Ovens plant. The new facility will include four stories of server space, as well as offices and a large parking lot.     Xerox announced in late December that it made a deal to sell its IT outsourcing business to French technology company Atos for more than $1 billion.   • Portland Data Center Construction Accelerated By T5

    T5 Data Centers announced in late December that it secured $55 million in order to fund a new Portland data center. The new complex will consist of two buildings on a more than 2 million square-foot campus when fully completed. The project was delayed for more than a year, but initial construction began in September. The additional funding will allow T5 to accelerate the first phase of building, which is expected to be operational by summer 2015 and offer 3.5 MW of power.
