Data Center Research Shows Increasing UK Data Center Market Activity

Recent data center research shows that there has been increasing interest by data center operators to expand their UK data center footprints. A number of organizations are currently working on completing UK data center projects, including Microsoft, Rackspace and Digital Realty Trust.

A Snapshot of the UK Data Center Market
According to a recently released ResearchMoz report, UK’s data center market is currently the largest sector in Europe, boasting the most raised floor space of any other region in the continent, as well as one of the highest median rack space pricing per month.

In the past much of this industry expansion was focused in the London area.

“But more recently major data center facilities have been constructed outside of London and the South East region with large campus-style data centers being established in areas outside of London such as Wiltshire, South Wales and North Cambridgeshire,” the report stated.

On average, these data centers include about 322,000 to 645,000 square feet of raised floor space. Recent research from GVA Connect echoed the ResearchMoz findings, noting that in 2013 alone, there was an increase of 830,000 square feet of data center space established in the UK.

“This represents an 18 percent jump in data center space take-up over the previous year,” said GVA Connect director Charles Carden.

Carden projected that the trend of increasing UK data center space will continue throughout this year as well.
