UK Data Center Expansion Completed by Hosting Company

Webhosting UK Com Ltd. recently announced the expansion of its UK data center at Reading. The facility growth included building standards for Tier 4 certification.

WHUK, first established in 2001, currently provides website hosting resources for 2 million Web pages for more than 30,000 customers in the UK. The organization also began providing new offerings, including SSL certificates and materials for PCI compliance.

The 50,000-square-foot facility includes a standard 48U rack data center layout that can support four to 35 kilowatts of critical power per rack.

The expanded facility features a dedicated HV network with diverse utility operator feeds, 2N transformers and N 1 generators. The Reading data center also includes 2N electrical switchgear and 2N uninterruptable power supplies in separate fire compartments to improve service availability. The data center layout comprises dual 32 amp feeds to each rack, allowing for up to 35 kilowatts of 2N distribution per rack footprint.

Currently, the UK data center boasts one of the most energy efficient infrastructures in the region, with a PUE of less than 1.2. Additionally, expansion efforts included improvements to the infrastructure to allow for an overall lowered carbon footprint.

Overall, Webhosting achieved Tier 4 data center certification, which is the highest ranking available in the industry. Standards for achievement include an infrastructure design that can support at least 99.995 percent service availability, N N redundancy of key components and an independently dual-powered cooling arrangement.
