Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. This capability is expected to materially boost Google Cloud’s performance. Lastly, as Google and other hyperscalers industrialize, it is increasingly evident that compute is migrating to regional hubs of power with friendly development environments. These hubs are revitalizing our industrial stock and evolving into the central backbone of our modern compute industry.
Wyoming Data Center Partner Search by State Officials
Wyoming legislators voted in July to begin looking for third-party Wyoming data center providers to host the state's systems and data. Officials are interested in moving to outside facilities because the current Wyoming data center facility is preparing to undergo major renovations. Lawmakers accepted a proposed plan to spend $800,000 to contract with private data centers to meet the state's needs. The money will allow Wyoming to move one of its data centers from its current location in the Herschler federal building to a space rented from private providers. The plan calls for an eventual annual cost of $1.5 million, which includes approximately $950,000...
Las Vegas Data Center Achieves Tier IV Gold Certification
Switch announced in August that its SuperNAP 8 Las Vegas data center had earned Tier IV Gold certification for Operational Sustainability, the top certification in the industry. SuperNAP 8 is only the fourth data center in the world to obtain it and the first carrier-neutral, collocation facility to do so. The other provider facilities to earn this certification include Telefonica's Madrid data center, U.S. Bancorp's Kansas data center and a municipal facility serving the Province of Ontario. Achieving a Tier IV Gold certification signifies that a data center has reached the highest levels of efficiency and redundancy in addressing the problems that lead to outages. The...
Oklahoma Data Center Newly Opened by TierPoint
In mid-August, IT services provider TierPoint announced that it had broke ground on its new Oklahoma data center in Oklahoma City. The new facility will include 69,000 square feet of space, 30,000 square feet of which is raised floor space and 10,000 square feet dedicated to business continuity office space. The data center is slated to open in the summer of 2015. The structure is being constructed to Tier III carrier-class specifications and will feature an N+1 redundant power system with the capacity to deliver 2.7 MW of critical power. Overall, the facility has the ability to support up to...

4 Reasons Nevada Data Center Sites Should Use Solar Power
There are specific operating requirements for a successful data center and one critical element is power. The power utilized by data centers can rival that of a small town and the long-term cash value of a one-cent decrease in power costs over a 10-year period per MW is approximately $797,160. This is a substantial savings making it no surprise that data center developers are considering sustainable data center power alternatives to realize a desired low PUE and achieve long-term savings. Nevada is a prime location for data centers to utilize sustainable power options, primarily solar power. Here are 4 reasons...
