Sydney Data Center Opened By Equinix

Equinix has invested another $100 Million in Australia this month with a new data center in the nation's capital, Sydney. The new facility will be roughly 135,000 square feet and have space for 3,000 cabinets.

The center, dubbed SY4, will be close to Equinix's main Australian campus in Sydney, and will open its first phase in Q2 2016. SY4 will interconnect with the current facilities through a dense dedicated fiber loop, which will allow SY4 customers to utilize assets throughout Equinix's Australian ecosystems. There are currently over 600 Equinix customers in Sydney, with over 250 cloud providers.

Australian data centers have been growing steadily over the past couple of years, and the market is estimated to be worth $1.36 billion by 2020, according to Frost & Sullivan.

Most data centers in Australia are there to meet demand for businesses' need for hybrid cloud providers. Eighty-five percent of Australian enterprises are planning to deployed multiple clouds over the next year, and 83 percent will specifically be looking for the direct connects that Equinix offers through the Cloud Exchange on its campus.
