Oregon Data Center Built By ViaWest

Data center construction company ViaWest is building its third Oregon data center this year. The 200,000 square foot facility in Hillsboro will offer over double the current space of ViaWest's two other properties in that locale.

The state's data center tax incentives keep the equipment inside from being taxed. Four of the biggest technology companies, including Amazon, Apple, Facebook and Google, have server farms in Oregon.

The facility will consume approximately 18 megawatts of power to support the servers inside it and marks ViaWest's second expansion in data center real estate in Oregon in two years. The company had last built in the area in 2013, adding space to a data center it already owned

"It's still a good predominance of local customers, and those customers continue to grow and they're successful," said Dave Leonard, ViaWest's chief data center operator.
