Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. Chinese colocation services provider 21Vianet recently announced a partnership with California-based data center provider Server Farm Realty. New Hampshire Data Center Opened By Fairpoint Communications
A New Hampshire data center was recently opened by FairPoint Communications, a telecom service provider. This is the company's second center in the state and overall. Dallas Data Center Expands With Wholesale Suite
Infomart Data Centers announced in late June the opening of the first wholesale data center suite out of its Dallas data center facilities. The suite, which cost Infomart $40 million to expand out of the existing facility, covers 24,000 square feet of the 1.6-million-square-foot building and will eventually supply up to 40 MW of additional power and 500,000 square feet of data center colocation space.The wholesale suite will allow service providers to rent larger portions of the facility, up to 3 MW or more of computing power at a time, instead of on a smaller rack-by-rack basis.Company officials hope...
Pennsylvania Data Center Under Construction At Penn State
Construction is underway at the Pennsylvania data center located at Penn State University near Hershey. The 1.75-MW data center will be capable of expanding to at least 8 MW in the future if necessary. Construction is expected to finish June 2016.The facility, which is located at University Park, was first announced in March 2015 as the university's answer to increased demand for high-performance computing.
