Colocation and data center services provider CoreSite Realty Corp. announced its intent to expand its Santa Clara data center campus in early June. The expansion will add 230,000 square feet of space to its facilities. The new data center is expected to open in 2016 and will bring the total square footage of Santa Clara data center space to 600,000.
This news comes on the heels of the company's April announcement of another 137,000 square-foot Silicon Valley data center, which will cost around $27 million to complete. The decision to expand the Silicon Valley data center is the result of continual pressure from the tech community in the San Francisco Bay area, as more companies continue to need data center space.
"Tech companies want to be close to their data center," said Ryan Oro, CoreSite's vice president of general management. "They could find data centers will cheaper access to power 100 miles away, but it's hard to find IT people that want to work there."
CoreSite's Q1 earnings report indicated that its quarterly revenue had increased by 17.3 percent over Q1 2014.
