Google has announced game-changing updates to its AI-optimized cloud, featuring fifth-generation TPUs and NVIDIA H100 GPUs. Companies like Gridspace have reported a 5x increase in AI model training speed using the TPU v5e. This move highlights the demands of generative AI and large language models, which have seen their ‘parameters’ increase tenfold annually. Another notable advancement is the introduction of Multislice technology, which supports scaling of AI models beyond the physical limits of TPU pods. Data Center Finance: Cologix Secures Debt Funding For Expansion
Colocation services provider Cologix recently secured $225 million in debt capital. The money is in credit facilities and will go toward the expansion of the company's data centers. With the capital, Cologix hopes to continue its investment in data center real estate across the U.S. by expanding current facilities and purchasing others. Colocation services provider CyrusOne announced the expansion of its Texas data center in Carrollton, which is around 21 miles outside Dallas. Calgary Data Center Announced By Shaw Communications
Canadian telecommunications company Shaw Communications announced mid-July it would be opening a Calgary data center in the fall of 2015 with the help of ViaWest. This will be the company's first Canada data center.Shaw Communications hopes that the Calgary data center will provide hybrid infrastructure solutions to U.S.-based and Canada-based customers alike. Minneapolis Data Center Site For EdgeConneX And MICE Partnership
Hosting solutions provider EdgeConneX announced mid-July a partnership with the Midwest Internet Cooperative Exchange. The partnership will allow EdgeConneX to build a remote MICE node into its Minneapolis data center, which is expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2015.EdgeConnex's Minneapolis data center is located in the 511 Building, which also offers computing space from Point North Networks, Level 3 Communications and Cologix. QuadraNet, a colocation services and data center solutions provider located in Los Angeles, announced a partnership with China Telecom, the largest Internet service provider in mainland China.
