San Jose Data Center Expansion Planned By Equinix

Colocation services provider Equinix announced at the beginning of July it was planning a massive expansion in the San Jose data center market. When realized, the plans will add five new buildings totaling nearly 1 million square feet of data center space in San Jose.

Two of the new facilities would be built near two of the company's existing Silicon Valley data centers on Great Oaks Boulevard, SV1 and SV5.

"We've had really strong fill rates in our core markets, and we have a lot of cloud companies that have come into our data centers," said Stuart Thompson, the director of real estate at Equinix. "This is one of our best submarkets, and we want to make sure we plan for the future."

Equinix operates facilities around the country, including four Chicago data centers, seven New York data centers and four Los Angeles data centers. The company also already operates seven Silicon Valley data centers. In total, the company operates 3.8 million square feet of data center space in North and South America.
