Memphis Data Center Planned For Expedient

Expedient Data Centers announced at the end of October that it will be widening its physical presence by expanding into the Tennessee market with a Memphis data center.

The facility, which was previously used as a data center by the Hilton Hotels Group, will be the first Tennessee data center for Expedient and the company's eleventh site overall. Expedient will spend $6 million for startup costs and necessary improvements for the new facility.

The Memphis data center will offer high-level features, including two 1,250 kVA generators, dual commercial power feeds and 450 tons of cooling capacity. The new complex will also be compliant with multiple regulatory requirements, including HIPAA Business Associate, SSAE16, PCI-DSS and SOC I, II and III. Once fully completed, the Tennessee data center will offer approximately 7,500 square feet of raised floor space. If the company were to experience additional growth and need to expand the facility, extra space can be easily added as the site has a total of 35,000 available square feet.

Shawn McGorry, president and COO of Expedient said that the company is entering the new market in order to offer customers more geographic diversity, which is ideal for both earning new clients and improving disaster recovery operations.

"We believe the Memphis market will be a great complement to our existing network of interconnected data centers; it will bring an additional geographically diverse option for our current client base, as well as a local market solution for the attractive and growing Memphis commercial sector," said McGorry.

The company believes the new Tennessee data center will create around 20 jobs in the area and hopes to have the facility operational by the beginning of July 2015.
