Canadian cloud service provider TeraGo announced in late October that it is adding a second Toronto data center to its portfolio.
The new Tier III certified facility enables TeraGO to continue expanding its national data center footprint. The new 10,000 square-foot facility was completely redesigned to meet Tier III certification standards and features 4.8 MW of power as well as N+2 availability of generators. The Toronto data center also offers the possibility to expand to an additional 1,600 square feet.
The Canadian data center, which was previously operated by Blackberry, will provide increased service to meet customer demand in the area. IT markets have experienced growth across the globe, but Canada specifically has seen a dramatic increase. A recent TechNavio study estimated that the country’s cloud computing market will see an annual rise of almost 18 percent over the next four years.
“This unique, high power facility was important for us to add to our footprint as we have seen a vast increase in the amount of power required to service individual customers,” said TeraGo president and CEO Stewart Lyons. “Customers are focusing more and more on high density server capability and this site will future proof us in this regard. It’s the perfect site from which to grow our cloud computing environment.”
TeraGo operates four Canadian data centers comprising more than 40,000 square feet of available space. The company also operates space within a variety of telecom hotels across Canada. In May 2013 TeraGo acquired Data Centers Canada in a $9.5 million deal. Since the purchase, the company has quickly expanded its presence in the country, opening its first Toronto data center in the same month, followed by three more facilities in 2014.
